TORAVERB 2: The ultimate reverb plugin
What is Toraverb 2?
Toraverb 2 is a reverb plugin developed by D16 Group. Like all of the D16 Group plugins this masterpiece happily carries that ever so familiar D16 look. Toraverb utilizes an advanced algorithmic reverb engine that simulates the natural acoustic characteristics of various spaces. It can create realistic reverberation effects that range from subtle and intimate room sounds to vast and immersive environments, this makes Toraverb 2 super versatile for any type of reverberation effect. Toraverb 2 includes a set of high-quality filters that can shape the reverb tail and tonal characteristics. These filters enable precise control over the frequency content of the reverberated sound, allowing you to sculpt the reverb to suit your needs. Toraverb 2 features a user-friendly interface that offers both simplicity and depth. Its clear layout and visual feedback make it easy to navigate and understand the parameters, making the sound design process more efficient and enjoyable.
What makes a reverb plugin good for music producers?
1. Sound quality is obviously a huge factor when it comes to reverb. Low quality reverb plugins might sound hollow or metallic, high quality reverb plugin will stand out with a dense and warm sound. Reverb should add richness to the sound without taking anything away.
2. Ease of use. Music producers want to work fast, good GUI design and high quality presets will make producing really effortless and fast. An intuitive and user-friendly interface is crucial for a reverb plugin. It should be easy to navigate, with well-organized controls and clear visual feedback. A good plugin allows users to quickly dial in desired reverb settings and make adjustments without getting lost in a complex interface.
3. One of the most useful features is a self ducking feature, this removes the need for extra sidechain setup. Self ducking reverb, has a "sidechain ducker" built in to it. Self ducking reverb uses the dry signal as a source for ducking the wet reverb sound away when the dry signal is present. This helps to clean up the mix and makes your sound much cleaner, because the reverb is only present when needed and it's not clogging up the sound too much.
4. Additional effects inside the Reverb allow you to edit the reverb just how you like it. EQ sectiong being the most important one, it removes the need for 3rd party eq's. Reverb plugin should be a full package of possibilities.
Practical and Fast
After two years of using Toraverb2 I’ve noticed that I don’t feel the need to go for any other reverb plugin anymore, at time of writing this post I do just about all my production work with Toraverb 2. This made me think why? I think the answer has something to do with the versatility of this plugin. Vocals, Leads, Pads, Atmospheres.. No matter what you throw at it, it does it with style. The reverb itself doesn’t sound “metallic” or “hollow” it sounds really rich and nicely articulated. Reverb should be something that “adds” something to the dry sound, but doesn’t take anything away, this is where Toraverb 2 really excels at. Most of the times I find myself scrolling through the presets and just adjusting the Self Ducker to make the reverb sit nicely in the mix. The self Ducker is really intuitive to use and sounds great, routing sidechain signals (especially in FL Studio) is just pain in the.. well you know where. But this is not a problem with Toraverb. I can really appreciate the time that has probably gone in to the GUI design to make it feel like you have a lot of control but it’s not overwhelming to work with.
Presets
Let’s discuss why presets are really important for a plugin like this.
One of the principles I really emphasize is making your DAW workflow as fast as possible, this includes selecting plugins that offer features that are going to enable you to work like this. One of these features is presets, yes presets in a reverb plugin, but why? Well hear me, presets are really something that can make or break a plugin, because the presets are going to introduce the sound of the plugin itself and the first impression is always something you can only make once. If the preset’s are bad, the plugin might go under the radar, but not in this case. The preset’s that come with toraverb are really useful and even inspiring, you can really quickly go through the presets and you’ll probably find something that directly fits on your needs with minimal tweaking.
“The Toraverb feeling”
The “feeling” or “atmosphere” that Toraverb creates can be something out of a vivid daydream. I wanted to give my loyal followers something other than just nice words to grasp on, so here is a video where is just basically slap toraverb 2 on this Cowbell sound. See and hear for yourselves what happens..
The atmosphere created by Toraverb is truly something out of a single moms daydream, especially when used on a lead sounds like this. It almost feels magical, just like the words describing the inner workings of Toraverb 2 on D16’s website. All jokes aside, no matter if there is or isn’t something special happening under the hood of this plugin, the end result is what matters the most in music production. If you would like to make this reverb preset even more magical you can add more movement to the reveb by using the “modulation” wheel. It’s going to get you even closer to something truly special.
